Dublin, 19th October, ALONE has today launched their Key to Dignity Campaign. As part of a three year plan to help tackle the housing crisis amongst vulnerable older people, ALONE aims to double its housing capacities.
Chief Executive Officer of ALONE, Sean Moynihan says, “We have recently secured five new properties under the CAS funding scheme, this means that five homeless older people will be granted the safety and dignity of a home in time for Christmas. ALONE staff and volunteers are currently working round the clock to make these new houses ready for their new inhabitants”.
A key feature of life in ALONE accommodation is that every older person is cared for with continuous supports. Staff and volunteers work with each resident to ensure they receive the practical and personal supports required to live fulfilling, independent lives as they age. Every ALONE home is age friendly, has its own front door, and is warm and comfortable.
Moynihan continued, “For every older person we house, more than twenty older people in need have to be declined due to the fact that we are unable to meet the demand with current levels of funding. It is a bittersweet process as we wish that we could provide accommodation for every older person in need”.
“We are asking the public to support our Key to Dignity campaign, and donate what they can to help us provide homes for homeless older people. We guarantee that every cent donated will go towards purchasing and renovating properties for older people in need, all of our services are transparent and quality approved. There are currently almost 5000 older people waiting on social housing but in reality the figures are much higher. Older people are the forgotten homeless” said Moynihan.
